Tools needed

1/2 wrench (don’t ask me why there is USE fasteners on it)

Flathead screwdriver

Something small and pointy like a nail

1st Step

Pop the hood

2nd Step

Remove the bottom nut holding the throttle cable to the bracket. You shouldn’t have to touch the top one.

3rd Step

Remove the E-clip

Be very careful and take it off in stages or you’ll end up with a e-clip sized projectile in your dog.

4th Step

Now you have to remove the cable for the trans kickdown.

This clip is a bit different all you have to do its pop up the top of it and it’ll slide out. This is only done so you’ll have enough room to remove the throttle linkage.

5th Step (Not required)

Now that the linkage is free you should make sure the plastic bushings are in good shape and greased up.

6th Step

Now we can move into the cabin

First remove the return springs on the pedal. This makes it a lot easier.

This is where the pointy object comes into play. The cotter pin has to be remove and chances are it’s going to be 30 years old. You may not have enough room to knock it out so you’ll have to pry it out.

7th Step

There is going to a little sleeve holding in the cable. It should just slide out no problem.

8th Step (the final step)

Pull the cable out from its clips in the engine bay and marvel at how tight it is compared to the new one.

I’m disappointed. I figured by step 5 you would be removing the engine

Too uneventful. I was thinking a door or something odd like right rear shock absorber would need removal.

Depending on the quality of your tool kit 12mm and 1/2" can be interchangeable. But it wouldn’t surprise me to see an actual 1/2" there for no good reason.

Instructions unclear. Attempted to make an e-clip from a dog.
